Google is giving travelers more ways to plan a trip directly inside Search’s AI Mode. Starting today, you can track flight prices, book a hotel and check how much a flight or hotel costs in miles or points, all from the same chatbot conversation.
The update brings the price-tracking tool from Google Flights into AI Mode. You can tell the chatbot where you want to fly and when, and it will show options from more than 300 airlines and travel sites. If you then ask AI Mode to track prices, Google will email you when the price changes for your planned destination and travel dates.
Google says the flight price tracker is live in all locations and languages where AI Mode is available, except for countries and territories in the European Economic Area.
How to view flight and hotel costs in miles or points
Users everywhere can now use AI Mode to check how much a flight or hotel costs in miles or points. For flights, you tell the chatbot where and when you want to travel and you will see the flight cost in miles. For hotels, you tell AI Mode you want to see the cost in reward points.
The rewards display will initially work for options from Alaska Airlines/Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, Choice Hotels International, Hilton and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. Google says support for Accor, Flying Blue, Hyatt, LATAM Airlines and Lufthansa Group is coming soon.
How hotel booking works in AI Mode
You will also be able to book a hotel stay through AI Mode. After you enter details about your trip and preferences, Google will display hotel options alongside guest reviews. You can then complete the booking using Google Pay.
Hotel booking will be available initially in the US in English and will work with a set of partner sites including Expedia, Marriott International and Priceline. Google plans to roll out hotel booking in the coming weeks.
What trip planning in AI Mode means for travelers
Bringing flight price tracking, rewards pricing and hotel booking into one conversation shortens the planning process. Instead of jumping between a flight search, a rewards calculator and a booking site, a traveler can move from searching a route to setting a price alert to reserving a hotel without leaving AI Mode.
The features pull from existing Google services, so the flight price tracker works the same way it does in Google Flights, with email notifications when fares change. The rewards view draws on airline and hotel loyalty programs, starting with seven brands and expanding to more in the coming weeks.
