Developers using Claude Code can now hand a single goal to a coordinator that splits the work across parallel cloud sessions, each running its own thread with pull requests, tests, and shared memory. The rebuilt Projects feature from Anthropic turns one described objective into multiple working threads, with progress visible in the main chat or per thread, including on mobile.

The beta is open to select Pro and Max subscribers using cloud sessions in Claude Code. Team and Enterprise access comes later, and local execution is coming soon. Interested users can join the waitlist through Anthropic’s Projects form.

How the Parallel Workflows Work

Instead of a single linear session, a user describes a goal and the coordinator splits it across parallel threads. Each thread runs as its own cloud session. Every thread can open pull requests and run tests, so work that would otherwise queue in sequence can proceed at the same time.

Progress is trackable in two places: the main chat shows the overall state, and each thread has its own view. The mobile experience also surfaces progress, so a user can follow work without sitting at a desktop.

A shared memory builds across threads over time. Claude collects context from each parallel session into one place, and a library gathers all uploaded files and results. This gives later threads access to what earlier threads produced, without the user copying context between sessions manually.

What the Update Changes for Coding Workflows

The parallel Projects feature is a step toward code automation. Anthropic made autopilot mode the default in Claude Code recently, claiming it outperformed human developers on safety tasks. The company framed the default as protection against bad approvals.

The shift also changes who controls token usage. More autonomous agents generally consume more tokens, and the control over how many tokens get burned moves from the individual user to the company selling them. The comparison drawn is a gas company controlling the throttle in a car: the entity that sets the automation level also influences the burn rate.

Availability and Access

The Projects beta is currently limited. Select Pro and Max subscribers who use cloud sessions in Claude Code can access it. Team and Enterprise plans will get access later. Local execution, running the parallel threads without cloud sessions, is coming soon but is not yet available.
