Anthropic has launched Claude for Small Business, a package of connectors and ready-to-run agentic workflows that bring Claude inside the tools small business owners already use. Announced on May 13, 2026, the product is designed to take on routine work such as payroll planning, month-end close, invoice chasing, and campaign execution, with the owner approving actions before anything sends, posts, or pays. The launch comes with a free AI fluency course co-developed with PayPal and a multi-city tour starting May 14.

What Claude for Small Business actually does

Claude for Small Business is delivered as a toggle install inside Claude Cowork. Once owners connect the tools they already subscribe to, they can pick a job from a library of workflows and skills, and Claude executes the steps behind the scenes. Anthropic ships 15 ready-to-run agentic workflows across finance, operations, sales, marketing, HR, and customer service, plus 15 skills built around the repeatable tasks owners said slowed them down most.

Concrete examples listed by Anthropic include:

  • Planning payroll: settle the QuickBooks cash position against incoming PayPal settlements, build a 30-day forecast, rank what is overdue, and queue reminders for approval.
  • Closing the month: reconcile books against settlements, flag mismatches, write a plain-English profit and loss, and export a close packet to forward to an accountant through Intuit QuickBooks.
  • Pulse checks: surface cash position, sales trend, pipeline movement, and weekly commitments on a single page.
  • Running campaigns: find slow stretches in revenue, analyze HubSpot campaign performance, draft a promotion strategy, and generate assets in Canva.
  • Additional skills: invoice chaser, margin analyzer, month-end prepper, tax-season organizer, contract reviewer, lead triager, content strategist.

Which tools it connects to

Claude for Small Business runs through Claude Cowork and ties into seven named platforms: Intuit QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, Docusign, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365. Each connector handles a specific job. PayPal powers settlements, invoicing, disputes, and refunds. Intuit QuickBooks handles payroll planning, monthly close, cash-flow analysis, tax-season prep, and reconciliation. HubSpot runs lead triage, customer pulse, and campaign attribution. Canva generates multi-channel content with collaboration and publishing. Docusign sends contracts for signature, tracks status, and files the executed copy back to the right system.

Why Anthropic is targeting small businesses now

According to Anthropic, small businesses account for 44% of U.S. GDP and employ nearly half the private-sector workforce, but their adoption of AI has lagged behind larger enterprises. The company frames the gap as a tooling and training problem: most AI products are not built for how small operators actually work, so usage often stops at the chat window.

Daniela Amodei, Co-founder and President of Anthropic, tied the launch to that gap. Her statement: “Small businesses make up nearly half the American economy, but they’ve never had the resources of bigger companies. AI is the first technology that can finally close that gap, which is why we’re launching Claude for Small Business, alongside training and partnerships to make sure AI shows up for the entrepreneurs and communities who need it most. Claude for Small Business runs inside the tools owners already rely on, like QuickBooks, PayPal, and HubSpot, and takes on the work that piles up after hours, like planning payroll, chasing invoices, or kicking off a marketing project. People run the business, and Claude helps take the late-night work off their plates.”

How partner companies are framing the integration

Three of the launch partners shared comments in the announcement:

  • Joe Preston, VP of Product Management at Intuit QuickBooks: “Small and mid-market businesses fuel our economies, and for decades, QuickBooks has been proud to be their trusted financial partner. By integrating the agentic AI capabilities of our QuickBooks platform into Claude for Small Business, we’re providing small businesses with AI-powered automations and experiences that allow them to remove the complexities of managing their finances, accelerate payroll workflows, and generate data-backed insights that help them grow and scale with speed and confidence.”
  • Angela DeFranco, GM and VP Product of Marketing Hub at HubSpot: “At HubSpot, our mission is to help scaling companies grow with AI. We partnered with Anthropic to build the first CRM connector for Claude so go-to-market teams can access their HubSpot context wherever they work. For small businesses, that means getting tailored answers, summaries, and visualizations directly from their customer platform so they can segment smarter, run better campaigns, and drive more leads.”
  • Anwar Haneef, GM and Head of Ecosystem at Canva: “Small businesses need AI that moves at the speed they do. With Canva powering content creation in Claude for Small Business, a business owner can go from idea to published, on-brand design in one flow, while AI handles the work in between. It’s part of our vision to make complex AI workflows simple, so we can help people achieve their goals through design.”

Early customer reactions

Three operators quoted in the announcement described how the workflows changed their day-to-day:

  • Brian Ludviksen, COO of Purity Coffee: “Not only could it problem-solve for me, it also showed me problems I didn’t know I had.”
  • Mike Beckham, CEO of Simple Modern: “What we used to think were the constraints are just not constraints anymore. That’s liberating. Hours of looking at stuff that doesn’t matter are gone. I want an entire organization where everybody is using these tools daily.”
  • Ryan Olson, Technology and Innovation Manager at MidCentral Energy: “It’s freeing up things that used to be a lot of very tedious clerical work for more value-add tasks.”

How approvals and permissions work

Anthropic designed Claude for Small Business around three trust principles:

  • Owner stays in the loop. Every task and workflow is initiated by the user, who approves the plan first or, when ready, lets it run end-to-end.
  • Existing permissions hold. If an employee cannot see something in QuickBooks or Google Drive today, they cannot see it through Claude.
  • Data is not used for training by default on Team and Enterprise plans. Full details are in Anthropic’s Trust Center.

Anthropic also cited a survey it ran with small business owners in which half named data security as their single biggest hesitation about AI.

AI Fluency for Small Business course

Alongside the product, Anthropic and PayPal released AI Fluency for Small Business, a free on-demand online course on running a small business with AI. It is taught by owners who have integrated AI into their own operations, including Prospect Butcher Co. in Brooklyn and MAKS TIPM Rebuilders in California. Topics include identifying which tasks in a business are right for AI and how to get started safely, responsibly, and ethically.

Amy Bonitatibus, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at PayPal, said: “PayPal is proud to partner with Anthropic to help small and medium-sized businesses capture the potential of the AI-led economy. Together, we are equipping these business owners and entrepreneurs with the tools, expertise, and trusted infrastructure they need to compete and thrive in a rapidly evolving digital economy and creating new opportunities for them to innovate, grow and better serve their customers.”

The Claude SMB Tour

Starting May 14, Anthropic and partner Tenex.co are taking Claude for Small Business on the road. The Claude SMB Tour is a free, half-day live AI fluency training and hands-on workshop for 100 local small business leaders per stop. Attendees receive a one-month Claude Max subscription to start integrating AI into their workflows. Spring stops include Chicago, Tulsa, Dallas, Hamilton Township, Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Salt Lake City, Baltimore, San Jose, and Indianapolis. More cities will be added in the fall. Anthropic thanked the Greater Cleveland Partnership and the National Talent Collaborative for piloting the concept in March.

Nonprofit and accelerator partnerships

Anthropic says it is funding partnerships with smaller and underserved operators as part of its public benefit corporation mission.

  • Workday Foundation Solopreneurship Accelerator Program: Together with Workday and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), Anthropic is supporting a 2026 program that equips an initial cohort of 15 aspiring solopreneurs with seed funding from the Workday Foundation, Claude credits from Anthropic, and an AI-first entrepreneurship curriculum developed by LISC.
  • Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs): Anthropic is partnering with Accion Opportunity Fund, Community Reinvestment Fund USA, and Pacific Community Ventures. These CDFIs receive Claude credits and hands-on technical support to build tools that help more small businesses get funded. Pacific Community Ventures is using Claude to power its Radiant Data Hub, a shared resource for a network of CDFIs, to collect and synthesize voice-based feedback from small business clients and their workers.
