Students and lifelong learners can now solve problems, quiz themselves, organize class material, and build study documents without leaving Google Search. A set of five learning tools spans AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Lens, with notebooks rolling out across more than 180 countries and practice quizzes available free of charge worldwide in English.

What are the new learning tools in Google Search?

The update covers five features built into AI in Search. Each one targets a different stage of studying, from understanding a concept the first time to reviewing for a standardized exam.

1. Interactive visuals generated from a query

Search can generate custom tools and simulations directly in an AI Overview. A search such as "ph scale" now returns an interactive visual alongside the standard result. A follow-up like "plot citrus fruits on the pH scale" triggers AI Mode to build a customized version of the visual for that specific request. Anyone with a particular question in mind can head straight to AI Mode and describe the tool they need. Generative UI capabilities launched globally in English in AI Mode and began rolling out in AI Overviews.

2. Practice quizzes for any subject

AI in Search produces a customized practice quiz on request, covering science, math, humanities, and foreign languages. Quizzes are also available for these standardized tests: ACT, AP, ENEM, GRE, JEE, LSAT, MCAT, NEET, and SAT. Google partnered with The Princeton Review, Careers360, PhysicsWallah, and Akira Enem to supply content from test-prep providers for the standardized exam quizzes. Each quiz response includes an explanation and links to learn more. Practice quizzes are now globally available in English free of charge in both AI Overviews and AI Mode.

3. Lens as a step-by-step tutor

Lens in Search is gaining an interactive learning experience that walks through a problem and points out where work may be wrong. Users tap the Lens camera icon in the Google app on Android and iOS, snap a photo of the material in front of them, and receive an AI Overview with explanations and coaching. Follow-up questions continue inside AI Mode while related web results stay available alongside. The Lens learning experience rolls out globally in English over the coming weeks.

How does organization work inside Search?

Two of the five tools focus on keeping class material in one place and turning scattered notes into finished study documents.

4. Notebooks inside AI Mode

Notebooks, formerly called NotebookLM, now appear inside AI Mode. A separate notebook can be created for each class or project, and sources such as class slides, syllabi, web articles, and prior AI Mode threads on the same topic can all be added. The notebook lets users ask questions against their reference material and follow ideas over time. Existing notebooks from Gemini Notebook or the Gemini app appear automatically in Search, keeping sources and instructions in sync across products. Notebooks in AI Mode are rolling out over the coming days across more than 180 countries in English, with local language support to follow in the weeks ahead.

5. Custom study files from uploaded material

AI Mode can now combine uploaded files into a single ready-to-use study document instead of asking the user to copy and paste between sources. A photo of handwritten notes plus lecture slides can be pulled together with a request for a one-pager outlining the key concepts. Custom file creation in AI Mode has rolled out globally in English and will come to AI Overviews as well. At launch, it supports documents, slide presentations, spreadsheets, and text files across a range of formats, with additional formats to come.

Where these tools fit in a study routine

Taken together, the five features cover the full loop of learning a topic: an interactive visual or generated simulation to understand it, a quiz to check retention, Lens to walk through a hard step, a notebook to keep reference material in one place, and custom files to produce a finished study artifact. Three of the features, generative UI, practice quizzes, and custom file creation, are already rolling out globally in English. Lens arrives globally in English over the coming weeks. Notebooks land across more than 180 countries in English over the coming days, with local languages to follow.
