Site owners can now see how their pages perform in Google’s generative AI features and control whether that content appears there at all. Google has completed the global rollout of the Search Console generative AI performance report and the Search generative AI opt-out control, finishing on August 31, 2026. The rollout began in the first week of June 2026 and expanded access over the following months, and it is now available to every website worldwide that has enough data.
What does the generative AI performance report show?
The report appears as an expandable tab under the main performance report inside Google Search Console. It covers how often a site’s URLs appeared in generative AI features across Search and Discover. Google has not included click data or query data in this report.
The report measures several areas:
- Impressions: How often URLs from the site appeared in generative AI features in Search and Discover.
- Pages: Which URLs appeared within AI features.
- Countries: Visibility on a country-by-country basis.
- Devices: The devices people are using when they see the website, available for Search results.
- Dates: Performance over time with hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly granularity.
How does the AI control opt-out work?
Alongside the report, Google has rolled out a global toggle that lets site owners block their content from appearing in or around AI features such as AI Overviews, AI Mode, and AI Overviews in Discover. The control lets a site opt out of having its content used in AI features either as links or for grounding.
Google stated that if a site still does not see the control, it might be because there is not enough data for the site to have the report.
What if the report does not appear?
Google noted in its help documentation that the control and report have rolled out to all websites worldwide. Sites that do not see them yet likely lack the data volume needed for the report to populate. Once a site generates enough visibility inside generative AI features, the expandable tab should appear under the main performance report.
For teams tracking visibility in AI search specifically, the report gives a direct measurement of whether a site gets cited inside generative AI features, which is separate from classic blue-link rankings.
