What is the difference between Old SEO and New SEO Techniques?
FAQ - Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Over the last few years Search Engine Optimization, for a variety of reasons, has changed quite a bit.
Here is an old list of SEO techniques that showed results:
- Adding keywords to comment tags
- Adding keywords to image alt tags
- Getting as many inbound links as possible
- Emphasizing keyword text on your pages using <strong> tags
- Optimizing <title> tags for your pages
- Adding good meta descriptions and a lot of meta keywords to your pages
- Add <h1> and <h2> tags containing a lot of keywords
These practices brought about good results a few years ago, but times have changed. Google has set the bar. Sites that find success in their SEO efforts now do the following:
- Optimize <title> tags
- Include good meta descriptions
- Add <h1> and <h2> tags containing keywords
- Write site copy with a good level of keyword density
- Offer fresh and relevant content that your users will appreciate
- Write a blog to keep your content fresh and on-topic
Plainly and simply, the sites that rank highly now are the ones with good, fresh content. Attempts to "trick" Googlebot have been consistently shut down, and the sites that continue to utilize them continue to be penalized. Be informed when optimizing your own pages, and, most importantly, be honest.
